Our Development Approach
Software development projects can be very complex engagements to manage. Over the years we have had many clients come to us after having experienced poor outcomes with other providers. We believe that our development approach has enabled us to deliver the outcomes that our clients expect.
Communication is the single most important factor in any engagement, whether it's software development, website design, a consultancy engagement or creative campaign. Agile
'Agile' is a specific development approach that promotes regular communication with a client through the many stages of their project. It consists of frequent releases and revisions of developed components for client review and input and allows clients to get a greater understanding of how the project is advancing and whether the core objectives are being addressed. This approach drastically reduces the risk of projects moving too far along the development lifecycle without client review.
Other development firms will spend months producing an initial release for client review, only to find that the project is off track. The compounding effects ultimately lead to the slipping of milestones, budget blowouts and ultimate poor client relationships. This is one of the reasons we believe our business has been so successful. 'Agile’ is a development methodology that truly embraces the value of communication and allows software developers to deliver quality products and customer satisfaction.
Scrum
The 'Scrum' development methodology enables us to put in place a project management process to manage 'Agile' development. Each party to the project, including the client, has a role. The focus on 'Scrum' once again, is rapid development and constant review.
The 'Scrum' methodology makes the development lifecycle more manageable for the development team. The goal is to develop, test and release small components of a project on a frequent interval for client review. Generally, releases occur at the end of two-to-four-week periods known as ‘sprints‘. During this time development functionality is locked in and cannot be changed. This enables developers to focus on a 'temporarily' fixed set of objectives and requirements.
The reality is, clients often change or expand the scope of an engagement as the project comes to life. This is generally a function of the client gaining a greater understanding of the product as it evolves. This is the beauty of 'Scrum'. 'Scrum' allows for clients to change and modify scope, on-demand. On completion of each 'sprint' the client has the opportunity to assess and review the deliverables and evolve their requirements. The developers understand that this is an inherent part of the development lifecycle.

Prince2
When Enigma Interactive is engaged to deliver or be part of large projects for government or large organisations where many external teams and stakeholders are involved, a project management system with greater structure and accountability is required. Enigma Interactive uses the 'Prince2' (Projects In Controlled Environments) method of project management in these situations. Our qualified 'Prince2' project managers have the skills required to either manage or be part of these complex project engagements.
Whilst 'Prince2' is definitely a structured project management approach, it still enables us to deliver work packages using 'Agile' development. Our ability to efficiently combine the project structure of 'Prince2' and the deliverable development flexibility of 'Agile' empowers us to manage and deliver projects of any scale or complexity.
